- ASSOCIATED MAKING
To celebrate International Museum Day, the Museo CA2M has come up with a new way of activating its collection and making it more widely accessible.
“ASSOCIATED MAKING. ASSEMBLY KIT OF PIECES FROM THE MUSEO CA2M COLLECTION” is a curatorial programme by Marta Ramos-Yzquierdo that views the exhibition as an open, imaginative and surprising reflection in which artists, institutions and audiences can collectively rethink our contemporaneity.
We have selected 45 works whose formats or the way they are exhibited can travel without the need for transport, as their support is digital: audiovisual, sound, printed archives, their instructions, descriptions or catalogues. From this selection we propose different combinations that can be adapted to different spaces and possibilities.
In this way we ensure that the works can travel widely, be exhibited in new contexts and suggest other readings that expand the potential for re-imagining artistic work and thinking. In short, we propose new possibilities of approaching and exhibiting the works in the Museo CA2M collection following five easy steps, just like the instructions that come with an assembly kit.
This exhibition format will be available for those exhibition venues, cultural and art centres, universities, museums, town halls, etc... that want to install it.
The CA2M Museum will provide the selection of works free of charge. All the works will be sent as digital files and, therefore, there will be no transport or insurance costs. In the case of catalogues, the CA2M Museum will send them by post.
The institution interested in installing the exhibition will only have to pay the curatorial project fees, adapted to each case, and to have the necessary technical equipment and display devices.

With a BA in Art History from Universidad Complutense Madrid and an MA in Cultural Management from Instituto Ortega y Gasset, Ramos-Yzquierdo is a member of Independent Curators International New York. From 2003 to 2015 she lived in Chile and Brazil, working in several institutions and media. Back in Spain she directed LOOP Barcelona 2017, and was a resident of Real Academia de España in Rome, 2018-2019. She currently lectures in the Master in Curatorial Practices at Escuela SUR (Univ. Carlos III, Circulo Bellas Artes), and is a regular contributor to the El Cultural and a-desk.org magazines.
Her main lines of work, which she has developed in projects and exhibitions in Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Germany, Italy, Mexico, Spain and the UK, engage with an examination of power structures and the potential of contemporary art practice to influence them, focusing on an analysis of perceptual modes and on temporary, socio-political and economic understandings. Her research is predicated on post-colonial theories and knowledge of other ontologies, with a particular focus on the Geopolitical South and the local-global paradigm, as well as a rethinking of the notion of work as a social articulator seen from the paradigm of the artist as a worker and the various formulations of art research and practice.
Recent projects in 2021 include SUPER SUPERLIKE. Impulsos digitales y emotividad virtual, co-curated with Enrique Radigales for Condeduque Madrid; and with Nicolás Combarro the process-based exhibition project El Medio y el Tiempo in Granada, with the artists Andrea Canepa, Esther Gatón, Fermín Jiménez Landa, Laura Llaneli and Enrique Radigales, conceived as part of the commemoration to celebrate the 150th anniversary of Mariano Fortuny y Madrazo’s birth.
