Educational Community

This course’s education programme is an underground river.

It appears and disappears.

Its texts are transmitted verbally, that is, via the spoken word.

We would love for anyone to transmit our projects and for them to reach far and wide. So, we have invited the artists we will be working with during this school year to write protocols in order to memorise and explain the programme texts. This way, they won’t be forgotten.

If you are interested in receiving this programme please write to us at educacion.ca2m@madrid.org or call us on 912760227 and we’ll tell you all about it.

A few years ago we started a collaboration project with teachers from the Enterarte group. What started out as a teacher training course here at the museum has grown into a project on education between equals in which knowledge flows from the two parts: the educators at the museum and the school teachers. This is true to the extent that we not only share visits to exhibitions (inside and outside the museum) and artist workshops with Azucena Vieites, the Colektivof collective, Bárbara Fluxá, Fernando Sánchez Castillo and Cabello/Carceller; but also, at the same time, Enterarte adds to the activities at CA2M and brings the everyday reality and experience of schools in order to help us grow as an education department.

This year we will continue this collaboration. We believe that it is critical to underscore the importance of passion and the work of this group of teachers and to continue thinking about the relationships between the museum and the school, opening up processes of research into artistic languages.

A place-archive-list to look in, to get lost in, to come out of … and many doubts too…

A desire to delve deeper into the realm of queerness following our experiences in the queer workshop with teenagers and with teachers and the need to share them has led us to create a changing space where we can continue exploring, thinking and losing ourselves together.

Project Q has no pretension to map queerness, rather it hopes to be a journey without a destination, eschewing the trap of closed categories, an action of moving forward, not of progressing but of getting lost, of turning back a little only to keep going on again.

De-organised by areas of probabilities, Project Q hosts a whole diversity of links and miscegenated, unstable in time, interchangeable, strange, shareable, chosen, and bastard materials.

Now that any future seems unthinkable, it is exciting to think about a possible future that will allow us to dance again. It is exciting to remember that we are alive, situating the body and experience at the very centre of life and artistic learning. Roland Barthes said that “we work with the act of apparition, the world that manifests itself through us and since we don't understand, we dance”. And so it is a question of dancing to understand the world and its potential. Dancing so that the interruption brought about by the current health crisis does not mean the end but a means through which we can dance once again. The workshop proposes a space in which we can rehearse the future(s) while dancing through different bodily practices, opening up a field of experimentation around the body (its uses, materialities and implications) and associating the experience with educational and learning spaces both inside and outside the classroom.

Paz Rojo is a choreographer, dancer and researcher with a PhD in performative practices specializing in choreography from the Stockholm University of the Arts (Stockholm, Sweden) with an artistic research dissertation called The decline of choreography and its movement: a body's (path)way. In 2019 she published the book To Dance in the Age of No-Future (Circadian), Berlin. More information here.

Every summer we organize a performance workshop for teachers, educators and artists interested in education. It involves a week-long work with the body in which we create bonds of collaboration and think about educational processes and performativity within education. In previous years these workshops have been led by Los Torreznos, Tania Bruguera, Pere Faura, Itziar Okariz, Norberto Llopis, Nilo Gallego, Dora García, Aimar Pérez Galí, Luz Broto, Aitana Cordero and Jiří Kovanda.

This year we wish to see and to make film collectively and, with this purpose in mind, we have invited Chus Domínguez to design a workshop. Focused mainly on practice, it will be a space aimed at teachers and educators who want to use audiovisuals to question their workspace and to find new forms of images and sounds in the classroom. To listen and look again like never before.

Chus Domínguez is an audiovisual creator specialized in documentary film. Together with the Department of Education and Cultural Action at MUSAC (Museum of Contemporary Art of Castile and Leon), he has set up LAAV (Laboratory of Experimental Audiovisual Anthropology) to develop a range of collaborative research-creative projects. He is also a member of the experimental action group Orquestina de Pigmeos and is a lecturer in the Documentary Film degree course at ECAM film school.

Aimed at teachers and other people interested in education.

In a few thousand years a future archaeological excavation will discover what were the limits of the city of Móstoles in 2020 and there they will find, on the site of the Children’s Home, bits of ceramic which, when pieced together, will create objects with no recognizable use purpose. The experts will try to guess where they came from, as they are neither utilitarian or decorative objects. The forms would suggest some kind of mysterious practice closer to the rituals and customs of the former inhabitants of this place.

During this school year, together with the inhabitants of the Children’s Home, we will make loads of extensible, ephemeral, detachable or permanent attachments, traces and remains for the future, sounds that will fill the space and slowly become echoes and then memories. We will create a set of sculptural pieces, hybrids between musical instruments and masks, monstrous fixtures that will be the memory of experiences that took place in this house over the course of these months.

We want to invent our own biography, who we want to be together and how we want to be remembered.

The under-21 team is a group of young people between the ages of sixteen and twenty-one who are interested in culture, art and community life. It focuses on utopian art practices that propose experimental forms of organisation, dissident attitudes and collective processes of creation. For this new school year, we will be dreaming about the idea of travelling to other places and escaping to the mountain, which is why the team will become a mountaineering group to investigate climbing as creative practice. We will continue generating spaces where we can create, share and waste time.

At the moment, the members of the Sub21 team are: Diego Alonso, Alicia Arévalo Gallego, Cristina Bermúdez Garrido, Paula Díaz Cano, Miriam Domínguez García, Sandra Esteban López, Nadia Ettahri, Claudia Fernández Concepción, Marina Lillo García, Irene Lloret Miguel, Elisa Lozano Triviño, Fabiana Marques Abatemarco, Richard Moreno Campechano, Marina Olympia Rodriguez Ibáñez, Rosario O'Kelly, Hugo P, Daniel Perera García, Iris Perpiñá Fabra, Rubén Reyes Carrasco, Tamara Serrano Cabello and Marina Viñarás Germano.

Put your body in a place.

Move it, shake it, jiggle it.

Put it to the test.

Subject it to and free it from a tempo and a rhythm.

Stress it, push it, tire it.

Listen to how your body sounds now.

What are our capacities for listening? Can we think of the body and treat it like a sound body? What sounds do we associate with our body or with the actions it performs and what is the meaning it imposes on them? How does the body sound?

During the month of September, we have invited the artist Sandra Gómez to propose a workshop in which we will use the workspace as a space of resonance, and as an instrument that resonates. And we will do the same with the body: it will be both the instrument that resonates as well as the space of resonance. Pat, rub, brush, caress...

The workshop will focus on research and experimentation with the body’s sonic capacity as well as how we perceive this sonic quality and how it affects the body.

One day you get a message with a location. This location is the hiding place of a letter that somebody has written to you. This somebody, whose identity you don’t know, proposes an exclusive sound experience for you, a musical gift.

Can you make music by writing words? Hiding Place is a proposal to work with sound without making music, it is an unidentified action that only you and I know, a meeting without meeting.

Individually, we will write a letter for someone we don’t know, proposing a sound experience. We will then hide the letter somewhere in the city so that a person who is communicated the location can pick it up. But, bear in mind that another person might find the letter first. And, of course, you will also receive your letter in a hiding place.

With the audiovisual “Un número no es una palabra” (A number is not a word) the Las Lindes collective is presenting fragments of the research and experimentation it has been carrying out over the last three years. A collective film (and not a film by the collective) which, over and above a diagnosis of reality or debating concepts whose excessive use has eroded their meaning, is an invitation to do and to make. A series of exercises that implement ideas, bordering on the absurd, to throw themselves into play and, as we have come to expect from Las Lindes, creating debate.

The public presentation of this audiovisual will be the beginning of a new phase for the collective. The goal of this project together with the consequences, changes, tensions and losses that the pandemic has caused in the collective’s fields of exploration—art, cultural production and education—have already begun to suggest and provoke new and different approaches. And not so much for our capacity to adapt as much as a case of resistance. We are still convinced that even today it is necessary to conceive forms and spaces from which we can think and act together, now more than ever.

In short, Las Lindes have made a film that we want to show you this coming Friday 25 September. Even at the risk of not being understood, it steers clear of commonplaces in order to create a place in common and to look for ways of talking that avoid the traps of language.

Las Lindes is a research and action group working with education, art and cultural practices. Its members are Virginia Villaplana, María José Ollero, Diego del Pozo, Yera Moreno, Pablo Martínez, Marta de Gonzalo and Pili Álvarez.
