Young people from 16 to 21

Young people from 16 to 21

The Under-21 team is a group of young people from the ages of 16 to 21 who are interested in culture, art and community life.

We focus on artistic practices that foster dissident attitudes and collective processes of creation.

Our way of working is in constant evolution. It almost seems like a miracle now to be able to physically meet up in the museum to share time, but it is important to us.

In the new 2022-2023 school year we wish to recover the museum with meetings and hook-ups with artists and collectives, to don high heels, to think about unsustainability, to think about small ways of changing our world through art and to adopt to changing circumstances like chameleons.

We are launching a call to increase the team and so begin with greater strength. Join us and discover the team!

In May several birthdays are celebrated in Madrid, and we are going to make a gift-tribute to our region. Through two workshops, the artist Clara Moreno Cela shows the public the process of her research on the identity of Madrid. In order for everyone to enjoy this activity, the first day is aimed at families, and the second and third days are aimed at teenagers and adults.

During the two get-togethers we will explore our relationship with the city through music, performance and games in workshops that aim to be a reunion with other people, and is also outdoor fun that makes the most of our terrace. A Chotistón to commemorate the festivities and traditional festivals – called verbenas – that are celebrated on these particular days. A celebration that also belongs to Móstoles – the 2nd of May – that has given us our name; a festivity we want to partake in as spring awakes.

On the first two mornings of May, we’ll create a show-gift to the city we live in. We’ll consider Madrid as a subject to pay tribute to through music, a show, a form of scripted madness. Madrid’s identity will be looked at from a folkloric and playful point of view during a two-day workshop, the result of which may be presented – time permitting – to friends and family.

1st MAY: 10:00 –14:00h | 2st MAY:10:30 – 13:30h

Workshop by Clara Moreno Cela.

Clara Moreno Cela (1993, Madrid) is the daughter of woman who is a bookseller, artist and cultural mediator. Her work bounds between drawing, performance and music, and she loves using literature as a starting point for the creative process. Her solo musical project, called Clara te canta (Clara Sings for You), brings all her passions to light in a straightforward punk way. She likes producing pieces using everyday things and pours her energy into thinking about the function of intuition in Art, the relationships between different species, and supermarket conversations.

The U21 team is a group made up of young people from 16 to 21 years of age who are interested in culture, art and community life. We focus on utopian practices of art that promote experimental forms of organisation, dissident attitudes and collective creative processes. Our way of working is to continuously evolve: right now it seems almost miraculous to be able to meet at a museum to spend time together but we feel that this is very important. This year, we aim to bring back museums, meetings, artists and group meet-and-greets, travelling to the future, becoming nomads and mountaineers, doing magic and adapting to the circumstances like true chameleons.

In this first stage of the year, called Start of the End of the World: Youth, we begin a collective research laboratory with the artist Paz Rojo, in which we radically experiment with speculation and the future.

Currently the U21 team is made up of: Diego Alonso, Alicia Arévalo Gallego, Cristina Bermúdez Garrido, Paula Díaz Cano, Miriam Domínguez García, Sandra Esteban López, Nadia Ettahri, Claudia Fernández Concepción, Marina Lillo García, Irene Lloret Miguel, Elisa Lozano Triviño, Fabiana Marques Abatemarco, Richard Moreno Campechano, Marina Olympia Rodríguez Ibáñez, Rosario O'Kelly, Hugo P, Daniel Perera García, Iris Perpiñá Fabra, Rubén Reyes Carrasco, Tamara Serrano Cabello and Marina Viñarás Germano.

The new team members will be: Marina Díaz, Adrián David Ferrer Cinta, Carolina Vizcaíno Serrano, Chris Alzamora Martínez, Claudia Mangas Gómez- Álvarez, Eleana Mayra Fernández Barcellona, Esly Reyes Germán, Valentina Herrera Otálvaro, Brallan Josué Ramos López, José Javier Hernández Escudero, Ana Rodríguez and Clara Isabel de Pedro Lizarazu.

The under-21 team is a group of young people between the ages of sixteen and twenty-one who are interested in culture, art and community life. It focuses on utopian art practices that propose experimental forms of organisation, dissident attitudes and collective processes of creation. For this new school year, we will be dreaming about the idea of travelling to other places and escaping to the mountain, which is why the team will become a mountaineering group to investigate climbing as creative practice. We will continue generating spaces where we can create, share and waste time.

At the moment, the members of the Sub21 team are: Diego Alonso, Alicia Arévalo Gallego, Cristina Bermúdez Garrido, Paula Díaz Cano, Miriam Domínguez García, Sandra Esteban López, Nadia Ettahri, Claudia Fernández Concepción, Marina Lillo García, Irene Lloret Miguel, Elisa Lozano Triviño, Fabiana Marques Abatemarco, Richard Moreno Campechano, Marina Olympia Rodriguez Ibáñez, Rosario O'Kelly, Hugo P, Daniel Perera García, Iris Perpiñá Fabra, Rubén Reyes Carrasco, Tamara Serrano Cabello and Marina Viñarás Germano.

A box of fanzines published by women, a shelf of books classified by weight or colour, an envelope with tiny publications... A library can be almost anything.

Last year, along with Sonia and Andrea, the librarians at CA2M, we started a collaborative project to create an archive of art publications with art students at IES Europa secondary school and to investigate the possibilities for self-publishing. The project consisted in moving the discarded holdings from the CA2M library. Art students took the books, catalogues and fanzines to their classes. Once there, we started a process to construct the shelving for the library and to imagine other possible ways of activating it. However, the project was cut short by the confinement imposed because of COVID-19.

This year we propose picking up the project where we left off. To create a strange and unsuspected library based on these and other holdings. Together with the art students, we will rethink what a collective archive actually means and we will question the logic of a library in order to generate a new narrative. The project seeks to develop new possibilities from creativity and resistance, to bring students into closer contact with contemporary creation and to create new bonds of collaboration between departments and institutions.

During confinement, we wanted to continue developing this project remotely. To this end, we invited Andrea Galaxina to think of a proposal to send to the students. Taking the form of a tutorial, Andrea prepared this fanzine to think of the creative possibilities of self-publishing.

Read Editar con nada. Una pequeña guía práctica (y un poco teórica) para hacer fanzines. (Publish with nothing. A brief practical (and a little theoretical) guide to making fanzines).
