This course’s education programme is an underground river.

It appears and disappears.

Its texts are transmitted verbally, that is, via the spoken word.

We would love for anyone to transmit our projects and for them to reach far and wide. So, we have invited the artists we will be working with during this school year to write protocols in order to memorise and explain the programme texts. This way, they won’t be forgotten.

If you are interested in receiving this programme please write to us at educacion.ca2m@madrid.org or call us on 912760227 and we’ll tell you all about it.

At the end of every school year we like to think of a different way of starting the summer. This time, the artist Marc Vives will pay us a visit to lead a workshop exploring new artistic strategies. Over the course of four days and one night when we will sleepover at the museum, we will explore the unexpected and put our imagination to the test in order to create magical moments that experiment with new forms of creation waiting to be discovered.

In this oddest of school years, which never really got off to a proper start, we are now drawing to its possible conclusion, a summer, a chance to get out there, to who knows where. We want to spend these last two months of the school year strolling around the rooms and halls of the museum, thinking about ourselves, about the walls, about the exhibitions, about its spaces and places, about our loved ones.

Every Tuesday from 11:00 am to 1:30 pm, the museum’s education department invites you to shake up its spaces, see how they move, see how they can be used by a museum now, how to build new ways of being together inside and outside the institution.

Every Tuesday we will start out from a different space:
stairs
perimeter
corners
ceiling
halls

outside

Triggering impulses, working in an experiential way, promoting critical attitudes through action, involving the body in learning processes ... These educational practices, in tune with the centre’s educational philosophy, are based on the construction of knowledge through experience. Thus, the exhibition’s performative routes focus on the spectator's experience and turn their gaze towards current art. In this way, we create meeting spaces in which to experiment and construct critical discourse regarding contemporary work.

At this time, we wish to invite you to visit two of CA2M’s exhibitions with us.
On Saturdays at 6:30 PM we propose visiting TRÉMULA, artist Javi Cruz’s exhibition, together. And on Sundays at 12:30 PM, VEROÍR EL FRACASO ILUMINADO (EXPERIENCE THE ILLUMINATED FAILURE) by the artist Cecilia Vicuña. There will be a maximum of 6 people.

To sign up, write to educacion.ca2m@madrid.org or call 91 276 02 21. You can also come directly to the museum and, if there are not too many of us, join the tour by leaving your details at reception. We take all of these measures in order to take care of ourselves and to take care of you, though we are aware that these measures may change according to the situation. We look forward to meeting up with you again.

This reading group draws on the time shared at this year’s Open University, dedicated to communication with non-human life forms, the knowledge that these connections offer us and their possibilities in sensible production. Based on everything that we have learnt in whatever way we could, we leave the past aside (in the hope that other individuals will join in) in order to delve into some of the readings that accompanied that programme and their connections with others.

Therefore, we’ll be exploring texts by, among many others, Gloria Anzaldúa, Reinaldo Arenas, Genesis Beyer P-Obridge and Cristina Rivera Garza with the intention, as the last author recommends: “... to live in a continuous state of alertness as regards the bonds created between humans and other humans, and the bonds between human beings and animal beings, and plant beings, and mineral beings. To inhabit that progression, admittedly. We are not dealing with an abstract or even a sacred connection, but a material interrelationship...”

The thicket reading group is an idea from – and guided by – Adriana Reyes and Manuela Pedrón Nicolau.
The requirement for participation is to have read the texts before each session.

4 BIWEEKLY SESSIONS

We start this year with a series of encounters in which students of education at the Autonomous University of Madrid (UAM) will be visiting the museum. Together with their teachers from the Department of Art, Plastic and Visual Education, and based on the experience of the group visits, we want to create a space in which the university can work with the museum. What can the museum’s education departments contribute to the training of teachers, and vice versa; what place do art and contemporary artistic practice have in their learning experience?

Project in collaboration with the Department of Artistic, Plastic and Visual Education of the UAM Faculty of Education.

In the coming months, the exhibitions will be full of objects that we will be able to fly over, contemplate from above or close up. We suggest wandering among them, finding refuge under them, letting them move you to see what the encounter brings. We invite you to enjoy this collective experience, which is open to all kinds of groups. Each trail will be different, with the route decided as we go. On Tuesday and Thursday mornings, we invite you to spend some time with us in this refuge, where we can step back and find shelter from the elements.

This programme is designed for groups of all types: associations, organisations and school groups.

We started this line of research last year, starting with the question: What do 0 to 6 year-old children like? In order to find answers, we visited crèches and nursery schools as an exercise in observation and took away a number of clues:

  • The yoghurt lid. Remove it, ‘read’ it and put it away.
  • Stick the mandarin segment stickers in unusual patterns.
  • Feed other children
  • Mix colours. Paint over and over with a lot of tempera paint. Until the paper breaks.
  • Peel the stickers off the crayons.
  • Little things. A bit of fluff, a speck. A tiny sequin on the floor that hardly anyone sees.
  • Make a bracelet out of a slice of bread.
  • Shiny things. Sequins and iridescent fabric. *

With a notebook filled with new actions to put into practice, we continue into this year by giving shine to this research carried out by the education department at the CA2M Museum together with the EnterArte collective. For the coming months, we will be planning new actions, internal meetings and other open activities to think about how to make the museum a softer experience and prepare to open it up to the widest range of people.

*Notes taken by Goya Batalla, member of the EnterArte collective.

This activity belongs to the line Escuela desbordada / Talleres de educación (‘Overflowing School / Education Workshops’) held by the EnterArte collective, which is a part of Asociación Civil Acción Educativa.

Our interest in these temporary encounters is to focus on the construction of knowledge through experience, rather than on the transmission of knowledge. We will start from the viewers’ point of view and how they see art at present. This will allow us to turn this time into a space for encounter in which the participants are not objects receiving an education, but subjects who collectively develop a critical discourse on contemporary works of art. In this way, visits will focus on a limited number of works in order to give rise to a more profound and open reflection, thus avoiding the more superficial exhibition itinerary and the idea of a single discourse.
